How is the place situated?
Miletus lies around Balat in Didim within the delta landscape where the Büyük Menderes reaches the sea. Harbour traces now seen inland invite the city to be read not as a list of structures but as part of a long relationship among river, alluvium, coast and port.

The official record describes occupation through Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, Eastern Roman, Menteşe and Ottoman periods.
