From Kocatepe to Dumlupınar

The Culture Portal records that the Commander-in-Chief's Battle began at Afyonkarahisar Kocatepe on 26 August 1922 and concluded on the Zafertepeçalköy-Dumlupınar line on 30 August. The place must be read through connected ridges, roads and villages rather than a single point.

Loss and commemoration

Dumlupınar Martyrs' Cemetery opened in 1992 in memory of those who died on different fronts during the War of Independence. Five hundred symbolic graves, various monuments, inscriptions, a prayer area and fountain carry a layer of public mourning and remembrance beyond the military event.
