From battlefield to memorial landscape

Gallipoli, Kocatepe and Dumlupınar cannot be passed through only as headings of victory or conflict. Peninsula, hill, trench, cemetery, monument and museum carry in one landscape the traces war leaves in human lives, forms of commemoration across communities and the responsibility of later generations to care for them.

This story does not romanticise a battlefield. It follows conservation, visit and inventory information published by public institutions and, without pushing human loss into the background, describes how terrain became a place of decision, movement, waiting, aid and remembrance. The line from the Dardanelles to the ridges of the Inner Aegean thus becomes a subject not of a single day but of long public memory work.
