The second life of two 1912 mansions
Gracing historic Germiyan Street in Kütahya, the adjoining Şapçızade and Karaca mansions bear inscriptions from 1912. Meticulously restored by the municipality, these twin timber estates enjoy a celebrated second life as the City History Museum, preserving municipal memory.
From Phrygians to the Republic
The ground floor displays an expansive panorama running from the Chalcolithic, Hittites, Phrygian Valley and Roman Aizanoi through the Seljuks, Germiyanid principality, Ottoman Empire and Turkish Republic, illuminating Kütahya's pivotal role.
Vanishing trades and guild craftsmanship
The first floor recreates vanishing guild workshops—coppersmiths, tinsmiths, feltmakers, saddlers and shoemakers—using authentic period tools and lifelike dioramas. In the courtyard garden, the complete artisan cycle of UNESCO-listed Kütahya tilemaking unfolds.
