The second life of two 1912 mansions
According to the Culture Portal, the inscriptions of the Şapçızade and Karaca mansions on Germiyan Street indicate 1912. Restored by Kütahya Municipality, the buildings opened as the City History Museum with a special museum permit from the Ministry; conservation carries the buildings into a new public narrative.
From prehistory to the Republic
On the ground floor, information, documents and photographs run from prehistory through Hittite, Phrygian, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Germiyan, Ottoman and Republican periods. This wide sequence makes it possible to read Kütahya's eras side by side rather than privileging one period.
Trades at risk of disappearance
The first floor presents trades such as blacksmith, coppersmith, tinsmith, felt-maker, basket weaver, carpenter, cutler, saddler, farrier, harness maker and shoemaker through reconstructions, photographs and original tools. The museum makes craft visible not only through its finished object but through the relationship of shop, tool and skill.
Ceramic garden and domestic memory
The museum garden presents stages of Kütahya ceramic production, while the second floor reconstructs domestic life through bride, wedding, henna, selamlık, clothing, bedroom, kitchen and carpet-weaving scenes. This dossier will add new institutional information on collection or building with its source date, treating the museum as a cared-for space rather than a frozen display.
