A fire-born terrain
The Kula-Salihli Geopark joins the Kula volcanic province, Bozdağ Mountains and Gediz Graben. Lava plateau, caves, basalt columns and fault landforms preserve an open record of geological time.
Geology beside culture
Alongside volcanic forms, the geopark includes rock paintings, fossil footprints, thermal sites and village crafts. Here, nature and culture are not separate chapters.
Katakekaumene: the burned land
UNESCO records that the ancient geographer Strabo called the area 'the burned land' for its black lava. The name shows that its geological appearance was carefully read in antiquity too.
