A settlement near Lake Manyas

Daskyleion is situated near Ergili village, close to the southeastern edge of Lake Manyas. The lakeside setting makes it more than a site of stone structures: it is a landscape to read through water, shore, movement and its surrounding natural area.

Walls, ceremonial way and kitchen

The official record lists Phrygian and Lydian walls, a ceremonial way thought to date to the Achaemenid period, a three-room structure described as potentially administrative and religious, a Lydian kitchen, and Hellenistic and medieval remains. This requires us to consider Daskyleion not through a single ruling label but through different uses of the same ground.

From excavation to museum

Türkiye’s Culture Portal states that excavation finds are displayed at Bandırma Museum. Reading the settlement plan together with the objects' second context in the museum shows that materials of everyday life carry the city's memory alongside walls and roads.

Expanding Balıkesir from coast to lake

Daskyleion does not claim a direct visitor route with Kyzikos, Sardis and Aizanoi. It does, however, open a strong Northern/Inner Aegean frame for comparing urban forms that developed at lake shore, strait threshold, plain and inland plateau.

How is the place situated?

Daskyleion lies around Ergili village at the south-eastern end of Kuş Lake. Its lakeside position, walls, ceremonial road, structures and production traces invite the settlement to be read not only as a defended hill but as an urban area connected with water and overland movement.

How do the layers change?

The official record lists Phrygian and Lydian walls, a ceremonial road associated with the Achaemenid period, a Lydian kitchen, and Hellenistic and medieval remains. The sequence reveals different political and social layers; this source does not establish an exact date for every element or one governing model.

How was the place inhabited?

The ceremonial road, three-room building and Lydian kitchen show that archaeology preserves everyday functions of dwelling, preparation and consumption alongside representation and movement. The elements are not assumed to have operated at the same time or belonged to one unchanged community.

What can be said today?

Excavated objects displayed at Bandırma Museum create a sourced second stop between site and museum. Because the official record does not fix current visiting conditions or an excavation season, field access and museum information should be verified through dated institutional channels.
