A city between mountain and coast

Adramytteion lies at Ören in Burhaniye, on the gulf coast between the Madra Mountains and Ida/Mount Kaz, in the setting of the Havran and Karınca streams. This places it not simply as a seaside ruin, but as a threshold where mountain, watercourse and sea meet.

Everyday life around the harbour

The official record names a well-preserved ancient harbour and storage buildings overlooking it alongside Byzantine houses, everyday objects, church remains, a ceramic kiln and Late Antique graves. This lets us read the city not only through harbour trade, but through domestic life, craft, belief and burial.

Türkiye’s Culture Portal says finds from the excavations are displayed at Bandırma Museum. Thinking of the settlement at Ören together with the museum objects shows that archaeological knowledge continues not only at the excavation site but through conservation and display.

How is the place situated?

Adramytteion lies in Burhaniye's Ören neighbourhood on the Edremit Gulf coast between the Madra and Kaz mountains. The ancient harbour and storage structures named by the official record show its relationship with the gulf, while houses, a church, kiln and burials reveal an urban fabric behind the shore.

How do the layers change?

Harbour and storage traces are listed alongside Byzantine houses, church remains, a pottery kiln and Late Antique graves. Their coexistence points to a long settlement sequence, but does not place every structure in one date, function or political administration.

How was the place inhabited?

Traces connected with storage, dwelling, ceramic production, worship and burial make it possible to read Adramytteion as more than a harbour point: it was a setting where different urban functions met. Because the source does not establish that all these functions operated simultaneously, their chronological distinction is preserved.
