Canyons along two streams

Water has left two distinct traces at Ulubey: valleys along the streams and structures that supplied an ancient settlement. In Ulubey district, Uşak, the main canyon follows the Ulubey and Banaz streams, with side canyons branching from it. The name Ulubey thus describes a connected network of valleys rather than a single cliff.

Channels, tombs and caves

Ancient water channels and rock-cut tombs lie along the canyon. They reflect different human uses of the valley, from managing water to burying the dead. Caves are also among the canyon’s natural features. Alongside the water-shaped terrain, these remains offer glimpses of how people used their surroundings to meet their needs.

Water carried to Pepouza

Clandıras Aqueduct was part of an old water-supply route to the ancient city of Pepouza. It carried spring water from the canyon’s eastern section to the settlement. The structure gives tangible form to Pepouza’s connection with the canyon: a link built to bring water to the city.

Nature park and viewing terrace

Ulubey Canyon Nature Park was designated in 2013. The glass viewing terrace is another human-made feature of the canyon today. Where the old aqueduct carried water toward the settlement, the terrace directs the eye toward the valley.
