Miletus Archaeological Site

Reading the place

Not one monument, but a layered setting.

Miletus Archaeological Site is where an old harbour, the Büyük Menderes, and the road to Didyma meet on the Balat plain. Its separation from the sea was not a single story of decline, but a long adaptation involving dredging, channels, dykes, lagoons, and agricultural labour.
